    Goa’s climatic conditions favor the growth of spice farms and there are a few of them strewn across the rural areas of the state. They are known for their natural beauty and organic plantations and Sahakari Spice Farm at Curti, Ponda is no different. This green enclave is lined with coconut trees and carpeted with fragrant woods, where one can learn about the various spices used on the farm and their uses in Goan and Indian cooking. A delicious home-cooked Goan meal is provided at the end of the tour, cooked and served in earthenware in a delightful rustic surrounding.

    What your day is going to look like –

    Your tour begins at 12:00  with a pickup in a private car from your respective hotel or resorts in North Goa. Once picked up you will then head to Curti, Ponda to the Sahakari Spice Farm. The Spice farm is made up of 4.5 hectares of cultivation and is located in the midst of lush green surroundings at Curti, in Ponda. This place is open year-round and is really nice in the rainy season where everything has a green monsoon look to it. The main purpose of this farm is to impart knowledge to the locals and tourists about the different spices, herbs, and their uses, medicinal value, and properties via guided tour. It’s the ideal place to relax, walk around, inhale the exotic aroma of spices and indulge in an authentic Goan lunch. You can also bathe an elephant and go on an elephant ride by paying an extra amount.

    After the Sahakari Spice Farm tour is completed you will head to Old Goa (Velha Goa), the capital of Goa during the Portuguese rule, this place is packed with history, culture and heritage. Old Goa houses some of the famous churches in Goa like the Basilica of Bom Jesus which holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Goa, it is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in India. Next is the Sé Catedral de Santa Catarina, St. Francis of Assisi Church, and the final stop is the ruins of St. Augustine’s Tower which was constructed in 1602 by Augustinian friars who arrived in Goa in 1597. Post this tour you will be dropped off at your hotel.

     

    The cost of the trip, what to wear, and what to carry –

    We recommend wearing light cotton clothes, like shorts, t-shirts, and sandals, you can also carry your water bottle, caps, sunscreen, snacks, etc. and keep yourself hydrated at all times owing to the hot weather and also lots of walking.
