One such unique trip is the crocodile and bird watching safari. This trip is for those nature enthusiasts and also the ones who have never witnessed this side of tourism in Goa.
Starting point
Your reporting location for this trip will be the Old Goa Jetty, near Divar ferry, Velha Goa. This trip does not include a pick and drop facility from your hotel, so you will need to make your own arrangements to come to the starting point.
Into the wild
You’ll board your boat which will be your ride for the activity. As you start sailing on the gorgeous backwaters of Goa, you will get a feel of the freshness in the air. The Cumbarjua canal in which you’ll be sailing is decked with Mangroves along both sides which are treasured plants for safeguarding the environment. This canal connects the major rivers of Goa which are the Mandovi and the Zuari. As you pass by, you will notice several living creatures of the area. You might get a few glimpses of flying fish; you’ll also spot a range of rare species of birds. Some of the common sightings are osprey, black capped kingfisher, white bellied sea eagle and stork billed kingfisher.
You will be provided light snacks and drinks on board your boat to refresh you. As you continue sailing you’ll come across Indian marsh crocodiles in their natural habitat trying to bask in the sun. Warmer the weather better are the chances of spotting them. The excitement of seeing them away from the confinement of zoos is nothing by exciting.
The other mesmerizing sights in these canals are fishermen doing their daily activities, the sight of calm fresh waters, beautiful plants and coconut trees on the river front. If you have a camera, the shots that you get will be great and one of your most memorable.
Timings: The entire trip will be of 2 hours duration. It commences at 9:00 am and the reporting time is between 8:30 – to 8:50 am
Rates: The cost of the trip is INR 1350 per person.
Attire and things to carry: Please wear comfortable clothes that are light and of cotton material. Carry your sunglasses, sunscreen lotions and you camera.
